This means two additional years of updates for Samsung devices on top of the two years that Google requires from manufacturers.
Last year, Samsung surprised us all by announcing that it would offer support for its latest phones in the form of three years of Android updates, which meant an extra year on top of the two years that Google is asking manufacturers to do when it is the Case is not enforcing this rule more seriously.
Today, Samsung raised the bar even higher. All Galaxy brand Android devices will now receive security updates for four years from 2019 and beyond. These updates from Samsung reach all devices in the different product lines: Galaxy S, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Z, Galaxy A, Galaxy XCover and Galaxy Tab.
This means that all future Samsung phones and tablets will receive Android updates for three years and security updates for four years. Aside from Google itself, there is no other company with this policy. Samsung has long been one of the worst manufacturers when it comes to sending security updates for its devices. And it has been incredibly slow to ship the latest versions of Android, even for its premium flagships.
However, for the past two years the company has tried to change that. Today, almost all major smartphones from 2019 or later are equipped with the latest version of Android. Many of the current mid-range devices are also equipped with Android 11 or at least Android 10.

In addition, Samsung’s Android security updates are now arriving very quickly. There were many months in 2020 when Samsung even sent the latest Android security update even before Google sent it to its Pixel devices.
