Apple iPhone 12 Mini, a fiasco? Or the beginning of the end of small smartphones?

News broke earlier this week that the Apple iPhone 12 mini is about to be discontinued as the Cupertino giant is selling less than originally expected.

Sales of the Apple iPhone 12 Mini in the US, the company’s largest market, accounted for just 5% of all sales in the first half of last month. This is likely due to the decreasing demand for smaller smartphones in the market.

According to Reuters, the well-known market analysis company Counterpoint Research found that demand for the new small flagship was quite low. Recently, smartphones with larger screens have become increasingly popular due to the increasing consumption of multimedia on smartphones (such as videos, movies, and other streaming services), especially through major social networking platforms.

News broke earlier this week that the Apple iPhone 12 mini is about to be discontinued as the Cupertino giant is selling less than originally expected. Right or not, the brand scaled back the production capacity of the iPhone 12 mini in order to increase production for the most popular iPhone 12 Pro model. For the most inattentive, the company initially expected its iPhone 12 smartphone mini to be one of the most popular devices in the new series, however, the greatest demand was for the superior iPhone 12 models and the Pro and Pro Max variants.

Counterpoint analyst Tom Kang added, “This is in line with what we are seeing in the broader global marketplace, where screens under 6 inches now account for about 10% of all smartphones sold.” Apple has not yet commented or clarified anything on the matter. So stay tuned for more information.

It seems clear to us that the market trend will turn devices with screens under 6 inches into a mirage in the near future. And the data now revealed says so. With increasing multimedia consumption, on different dedicated platforms or in social networks, the trend will always be towards larger and not so small screens.
